St. Peter's Basilica

Hey family,

St. Peter's Basilica is the largest church in the WORLD and it is located in the smallest country in the WORLD, the Vatican City. St. Peter's Basilica is held in the highest regards within the Catholic faith mostly because it is believed that the Great Apostle Peter was buried directly below the high altar. Also, there is an amazing statue of Mary with The Christ Jesus after he was crucified on the cross. Unfortunately due to an attack on the statue in the past leaving Mary's foot and nose chipped, it has now been enclosed by glass for protection.There are numerous other statues of various priests spread throughout the church. There is also the "Holy Door" located at the front of the Basilica that is sealed by mortar and cement from the inside so they cannot be opened.The door has to be broken down by the high priests as a distinct honor during ceremonial events.The ritual passing over the holy door is supposed to symbolize walking into the presence of God. This place was simply breathtaking... Here's a glimpse below:
